Founded by cousins Lattisha and Ashley, Nzuri is a proudly Black-owned beauty and wellness destination combining the art of hair with the science of skin. With over 50 years of combined experience, our team is passionate about helping you feel confident, radiant, and seen.

Lattisha Penniston
Master Hairstylist & Co-Founder
Lattisha is a premier hairstylist with over 20 years of industry experience,
celebrated for her expertise in color, cuts, highlights, smoothing treatments,
and curly hair. Known for her ability to work with all hair types and textures,
she’s passionate about helping every client embrace their unique beauty.
Her dedication to education and artistry led her to become a platform artist
and educator with Farouk Systems, where she traveled across Canada and the U.S.,
sharing her knowledge and inspiring stylists from coast to coast.
In 2025, she was named Winnipeg’s Top Stylist, a testament to her creativity,
technical excellence, and deep client loyalty. That same year, she opened her own salon—
a modern, trendy space designed to make everyone feel at home. With a laid-back,
welcoming vibe and a focus on high-quality service, the salon is a reflection
of her passion for both people and style.
Outside the salon, you’ll find her spending quality time with her kiddos
or sipping wine with friends—always balancing her love for her craft with the joys of everyday life.
Ashley Carruthers, NP
Nurse Practitioner & Co-Founder
Ashley Carruthers (she/her) is a dedicated healthcare professional with over 25 years of nursing experience. Throughout her career, she has worked in a range of specialties, including orthopaedic surgery, emergency, and intensive care, with extensive experience in remote locations such as Nunavut. Currently a nurse practitioner, she serves in primary care and walk-in clinic settings, with a special focus on preventative medicine and medical aesthetics.
In addition to her clinical work, Ashley serves as the CEO of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Manitoba, where she is deeply committed to advocating for both the nurse practitioner profession and the patients they serve. Her leadership is guided by a passion for improving healthcare access and advancing the role of nurse practitioners in the province.
Ashley is also pursuing a PhD, with a research focus on the experiences of underrepresented populations, particularly women and racialize individuals. Her research aims to highlight the disparities faced by these groups and contribute to more inclusive healthcare practices.
Reyna
Hairstylist
Meet Reyna, a Red Seal Certified hairstylist.
She has been working in the hair industry for the last 8 years.
Passionate about learning, she continuously updates herself by attending
training courses related to hair and doing research for new styles and products
that perfectly fit the personality of her growing list of clients.
She believes in making people feel beautiful — not only in how they look,
but also in how they feel about themselves.

With 18 years of experience behind the chair, I am passionate about bringing my clients’ hair dreams to life. I specialize in blonding techniques and premium hair extensions, including volume wefts, tape-ins, and keratin tips (K-tips), creating natural, seamless transformations. I also love crafting elegant updos for special occasions and weddings, ensuring every client feels confident, radiant, and unforgettable.

With over 20 years of experience behind the chair, Nora Santos brings passion, precision, and a deep understanding of hair to every client she sees. Specializing in blonding, Asian hair textures, extensions, and men’s cuts, she offers a wide range of services with expert skill and a personalized touch. Whether you’re looking for a subtle refresh or a complete transformation, she’s dedicated to helping you look and feel your best.
When she’s not in the salon, she’s spending quality time with her husband and their three beautiful boys, often joined by their loyal dog. Her love for family and beauty shines through in everything she does.
Candess
Hairstylist & Make-Up Artist | Educator | Industry Veteran
With over three decades of experience in the beauty industry, Candess Remo is a master hairstylist and make-up artist known for her technical precision, artistic flair, and dedication to lifelong learning. A graduate of the Scientific Marvel School of Beauty in 1988, Candess’s passion for hair and beauty has taken her around the globe—training with world-renowned educators and working behind the scenes at major fashion, fantasy, and editorial events.
Her advanced education includes cutting-edge training at Vidal Sassoon London, Toni & Guy, Suki’s Advanced Academy, and Sebastian’s Vision of Excellence. A certified Clairol Master Colorist and Schwarzkopf Advanced Coloring Technician, Candess has mastered both the art and science of color, from classic blonding to creative special effects. She has also pursued business excellence, graduating from the Schwarzkopf Business Seminar and earning the ESP Salon Sales Platinum Business Driver Award.
From London to L.A., Madrid to Toronto, Candess has traveled extensively to attend and contribute to industry-leading seminars, hair shows, and motivational events—including a life-changing weekend with Anthony Robbins and a Meet & Greet with Tabatha Coffey. She has participated in the celebrated Alternative Hair Shows in London and Chicago, as well as contributed to Hairapalooza and numerous editorial photo shoots and fashion shows.
As the proud owner of Society the Salon from 1997 to 2022, Candess built a loyal clientele through her versatility, offering services ranging from precision cuts and blowouts to custom color transformations, perms, straightening, and children’s haircuts.

With a background in photography and fine arts, she brings a trained eye for tone, detail, and balance—making her especially passionate about large transformations.
